There’s no way I’m a baker. But in the meantime, it’s become my new obstacle. I started making bread, making cake dough (without much success) and making a bunch of cookies. But the challenge I was constantly encountering was that my cookies were glued to the sheet. Regularly lined them with parchment paper, but still adheres and smoke is released from the oven. And then I had a Silpat, and the way I use my oven was replaced forever.
A Silpat baking mat is a reusable non-stick cooking mat made of food grade fiberglass and silicone. It covers the entire surface of a baking tray very well, so there is no threat of sticking. It’s reusable for thousands of uses, so you’ll never want to throw away burnt parchment paper again. It’s better for baking cookies, and they’ll slip right away with ease, however, I soon learned that it can be used for much more. It is a wonderful surface for kneading, and you can also roast vegetables, fish and even bacon. Because of the fabrics it’s made with, it also helps distribute heat in your oven more evenly, meaning you can also cook things faster and marvel everywhere.
The only problem with a Silpat turned out to be a big problem. Now I eat too many cookies. I mean, it’s hard not to. With my Silpat, they’re very easy to cook.
