A Michelin-starred chef has taken over a historic lake in a movement that will see a significant investment in the jobs created.
Kevin Tickle, praised for his “food search,” getting food from nature and incorporating it into his recipes, will lead the Crown Inn, High Newton, in a new business with his wife Nicola.
Kevin’s previous roles included the head chef at Forest Side in Grasmere, where, 8 months after its opening, he earned a Michelin star in the restaurant, temporarily followed the following year through 4 AA rosettes for culinary excellence.
Before that, he spent years running with Simon Rogan in Cartmel.
Kevin and Nicola have ambitious plans for the place, adding a renovated kitchen, and will offer quality food from local manufacturers and Kevin’s own study expeditions.
Kevin said: “The Crown is a wonderful opportunity for us and I am extremely happy with what we have learned over the past 20 years and create our own culinary destiny.
“I’m passionate about the ingredients we have, literally on our doorstep, and I can’t wait for the stoves to create something interesting.”
“There are many paintings to be done before opening, however, we are ahead to build a wonderful team and make The Crown a real success.”
The Crown is a 17th-century publication on the edge of Cartmel Fell, about 20 minutes from exit 36 of the M6.
Kevin and Nicola plan to create a stylish first place to eat on site, focusing on the quality cuisine served at the bar with a slate flag and an attractive variety of drinks.
The couple begged in the acquisition of the business and leasing through Jamie Allison, head of genuine property and Cumbria, and David Hill, real estate spouse of the regional law company Napthens.
The Napthens team also helped locate financing for the company, Penrith-based Enterprise Answers.
Jamie said: “We are fortunate to have Kevin in the Lake District; he has brought genuine artistic thinking to every position he has worked for and now we will find out what he can do once he is lost in his own establishment.
“Kevin and Nicola revel in everything from food to front control and marketing.
“The Crown is in an untapped domain of the Lake District and this will give others some other explanation for why to make a stop on that component of the domain.
Grahame Latus, Managing Director of Enterprise Answers, which provides a diversity of financing to northern businesses: “This was precisely the kind of assignment we’re looking for: an assignment that gives local vendors the opportunity to grow their businesses and attract people. jobs at the same time.
“We wish Kevin and Nicola for their business.”
The owners of The Crown, the Kennedy family, went through Graham Bainbridge in Fylde’s LHT lawyers.
