The saying goes “we scream for ice cream,” but this ice cream got consumers screaming.
Food Safety News reports that vegan candy company Eclipse Foods of Berkeley, California, is recalling its pints of nut caramel butter because they would possibly involve ink pen fragments. Yes, you read that right.
The recall, announced by the FDA, was filed on June 30 and is still ongoing.
The Eclipse Foods online page lists the ice cream as out of stock. However, it still seems to be available for purchase on the online page of the Washington-based supermarket chain Gggen. It is also indexed on the online page of the West Coast supermarket chain Vons.
The ice cream was sold in Delaware, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D. C. Those who have recently bought ice cream keep an eye out for those details: 14 fl oz. cup, UPC: 810049270490 Frozen, Lot #: MC00923041, and an expiration date of 10/02/2024.

Those who still have ice cream in the freezer, throw it away immediately.
Pens aren’t the wildest inedible fragment discovered in candy this summer. On July 21, Trader Joe’s announced that stones had been discovered in the store’s beloved Almond Windmill cookies, which come with dark chocolate chunks and Trader Joe’s almond cookies.
Trader Joe’s also remembered its unforeseen broccoli and cheddar cheese soup for being infected with anything that is actually unforeseen: bugs.
Needless to say, you do your studies before approving grocery shopping this summer, just to be safe!
