The site recommends storing these foods in covered boxes for cover purposes, and adds that it is probably not for eating food “from inflated, dented or corroded cans, even if the product appears to be eating.”
Finally, in case of a power outage, it is advised to keep the refrigerator and freezer closed as much as possible. “The refrigerator will keep food blood-free for about four hours if it doesn’t open,” the online page says. “Refrigerated or frozen food must be stored at four degrees F or less for smart food storage,” explains Ready.gov.
“To be sure, remember: ‘If in doubt, throw it away.'”

Dr. Carl Batt, professor of food science at Cornell University, also detailed the five items he would have to stay in his non-public shelter, in terms of those that resist deterioration or supply the required proteins and nutrients.
He also reiterated that canned food, even if it “lasts long,” isn’t for drinking once the “box is compromised,” he told Fox News.
“Sometimes they rust outdoors due to moisture;” Other times, the acids contained in food cause corrosion of the box,” Batt said, noting that this is especially the case with the upper pH and possible acidic options such as tomatoes. However, “once [any] can is open, all bets are open.”
